Automate boring tasks • Pieter-Jan Drouillon • Devoxx Poland 2021

We’ve all been there: repetitive, boring tasks we like to postpone. First of that kind that pops up in your mind: filling out timesheets!
While working at a Telco project, we had to fill out timesheets in the most archaic, nerve-wrecking system. shortly I was fed up and decided to automate this process with calling a remainder Api, Selenium and any python programming. shortly I noticed I could automate another repetitive tasks.

In this talk I’ll present my journey of how I made my life somewhat easier. I’ll present any real-life examples including filling timesheets, posting deployment updates, updating your environment, ... and give any tips and advice how you can find those boring tasks you might be able to automate!

With more than 15 years in the IT sector, I have built my expertise around the following 3 key pillars: java development, data and education. As a coach and lifelong learner, I have a natural curiosity to realize the challenges and make better solutions. Following this mindset, I have late finished Magna Cum Laude the Postgraduate in large Data and Analytics in Business at KU Leuven, pursuing a better knowing of the challenges faced in the sector. In my spare time, I spend time with 1 partner, 2 kids and 4 guitars. If time permits, I besides like to effort out fresh technologies on pet projects.

#DevoxxPoland 2021 took place in the ICE Krakow legislature Centre on 25th – 27th August. During 3 days,
2.700 Devoxxians from 20 different countries attended #DevoxxPoland including 100+ speakers and another
600K developers enjoyed the presentations online. Making #Devoxx the biggest #Java conference in Poland.
