A horse rider has died after falling at a fence during a major eventing competition in Northamptonshire. Sarah Yorke, 37, could not be saved by medical professionals following the accident at the third fence at the Aston-le-Walls Horse Trials on Friday.

British Eventing confirmed the tragic incident in a statement and announced that all competition scheduled for Saturday had been abandoned. The organisation described the incident as "a deeply difficult moment for the eventing community".

Horse uninjured in accident

Ms Yorke's horse, MGH HERA, was uninjured after being assessed by the on-site veterinarians and walked back to the stable. Medical professionals attended the scene but were unable to save the rider despite their efforts.

British Eventing has announced there will be a full review of what happened during the competition. Chief executive Rosie Williams expressed the organisation's condolences to the rider's family and friends.

Community mourns tragic loss

"On behalf of everyone at British Eventing, I would like to express our deepest condolences to Sarah's family and friends," Williams said. "The thoughts of the entire eventing community are with them at this incredibly difficult time."
