Sageer Hussain, 40, received an additional three-year prison sentence on Tuesday at Sheffield Crown Court for a rape committed 25 years ago. The victim was 13 years old at the time of the offense, which occurred between 2000 and 2002 in Rotherham town centre.

Hussain was approximately 15 years old when he led the girl into an alleyway, threatened her, and raped her. The new sentence will run concurrently with his existing 19-year term.

A court jailed Hussain in 2016 for raping another 13-year-old girl in Rotherham. The National Crime Agency investigated the case as part of Operation Stovewood, the agency's largest investigation into historic abuse cases.

A jury found him guilty on July 23, 2025, after prosecutors charged him in February 2024.

Court Response

Judge Charles Thomas acknowledged the victim's ordeal during sentencing. "The sad fact of this case is that, despite her young age at the time, you were not the first man to have abused and exploited (the complainant) in this area and around this time", the judge said.

The victim, now in her thirties, attended court to watch Hussain being sentenced.

Investigation Officials Respond

Alan Hastings, Senior Investigating Officer at the National Crime Agency, praised the victim's courage. "The victim has shown enormous strength and fortitude in reporting what Sageer Hussain did to her", Hastings said. He emphasized that specially trained officers are available to help victims. "I encourage victims to contact police, no matter how long ago sexual abuse occurred."

Related Convictions

A court convicted two co-defendants, Kessur Ajaib, 44, and Mohammed Makhmood, 43, of raping another 14-year-old girl over a two-year period starting in 1999. Both men, from Rotherham, were between 18 and 20 years old during their offenses.

The court will sentence them on November 21.

Liz Fell, Specialist Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service's Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit, condemned the perpetrators' actions. "These men deliberately exploited the victims' youth and vulnerability to manipulate and control them", Fell said.

"The treatment these young girls endured was appalling—they were attacked in isolated locations and subjected to humiliation and verbal abuse." She thanked both women for their courage in coming forward.

Operation Stovewood, investigating abuse allegations in Rotherham from 1997 to 2013, has resulted in convictions totaling over 1,500 years in prison sentences.
