A five-year-old boy suffered a head injury after falling from a fairground ride at a popular North Yorkshire farm on Friday evening. The incident occurred at Spilman's Farm in Thirsk at around 7:20pm during the busy autumn pumpkin-picking season.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service and Yorkshire Air Ambulance responded to the emergency call at 7:21pm. The child was transported to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for treatment.

Farm representatives confirmed the boy is recovering well after speaking with his mother. "We're so thankful the little boy is okay," the farm wrote on social media. "We spoke with his mum this morning and will continue to respect the family's privacy while offering our support."

Safety response and investigation

The fairground ride was immediately closed following the incident and remained shut on Saturday for thorough safety checks. Farm staff described the incident as "really upsetting" but emphasised their relief at the child's recovery.

According to the Daily Record, the injured child is five years old. The Northern Echo reports that police also attended the scene alongside emergency services at the farm's Little Sessay location.

Popular family destination

Spilman's Farm, established in 1941, is currently hosting its annual autumn activities with over 175,000 pumpkins available for picking. The farm attracts thousands of families from across the North East during the seasonal period.

The venue offers Halloween events including spooky stage shows, fancy dress discos, and fireworks displays scheduled for October 25 and 26. The farm also operates a shop, café and play barn year-round.
