Departures have been suspended at London Stansted Airport following a fire that broke out in the departure area this morning.
The blaze occurred at approximately 3:30am in the Escape Lounge, forcing the closure of security screening areas.
The fire was quickly extinguished by emergency services, but significant smoke required the evacuation of passengers from the affected area.
No departures will leave the airport until later this morning as safety checks are completed. Security areas reopened at 6am after three hours.
Stansted Airport serves over 180 destinations across Europe, Asia and North Africa, operating as a major base for Jet2, Ryanair and TUI Airways.
Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for updated departure information as the situation develops.
